CATSCRATCHBOX.COM CARE AND USE We had seen the (too) small discount store cat scratchers torn to pieces in a month or so and knew we could make a better one for our cats, that is how we got started making cat boxes. They slowly evolved in shape, size, material used, and design over many years and cat testers. From our own experience and the input of many other users (feline and human) we hope the following information will provide you and your cat with a cat box that gives many years of enjoyable use.
PLACEMENT---Our Cat Scratch Boxes are not only excellent scratchers but will usually become a cat's favorite hang out and napping spot as well. For this reason it is best to place the Scratch Box (and as you will see, soon to become Lounger) in a quiet, low traffic area where your cat will not need to fear being stepped on--or worse yet disturbed!--while napping. Your cat probably has more than a few spots like that already picked out.
MULTIPLE CAT HOMES---If you live with more than one cat, you may well find that they will become rather competitive about using the scratch box. The alpha cat may dominate the box entirely, or two cats take turns getting on and scratching immediately after the other has vacated. (It's mine! No, it's mine!). This competitive scratching will cause faster than normal shredding and it could turn out that your multiple cat household could use more than one scratch box. We suggest buying just one, see how it works out and then buying another if it is needed.
CLEANING---We use special processed, industrial corrugated filler in our Cat Box. Tough as it is small pieces of corrugated and lots of fur from multiple cat naps collect on the surface. Vacuum or brush off the surface with a wire cat brush to maintain an attractive appearance. In a hurry? Surprise guests coming? No time to clean? Just flip the reversible Cat Scratch Box over for a fresh clean surface. We also find that whenever we clean our scratch box our cat immediately pounces on it, scratches like crazy, and goes into a Sphinx-like position on it--Get away you, this is mine, Mine MINE.
WEIGHT LIMIT ---Our Cat Scratch Boxes are of unique construction and we know that they hold at least 35 lbs. (accidentally toddler tested!) They were not designed to support humans and likely will be damaged if anyone stands on it.
ABOUT THE CATNIP WE SEND WITH EVERY BOX---We grow our own organic catnip in our garden. We know it's spring when we see the neighborhood cats out rolling over the new catnip sprouts. We include a small bag for your use, but find that since most cats have an instinct for things cat size, many people tell us they never even had to use it. In almost every case, once a cat has started to use HIS or HER box, you will not need to use catnip to attract the cat but you will probably need a pry bar to get the cat off it. The best way to give catnip to a cat is to rub it on a toy or object they like. They get silly on the scent, otherwise they will just eat it. Eating catnip, especially fresh catnip, is perfectly fine for cats but they just don't act silly and you get no entertainment.
Quick catnip fact: Roughly 85% of cats react to catnip and it's effects last about 15 minutes. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
